An inherited mansion. A determined new owner. Six ghosts with very poor haunting skills.
When Miss Marjorie...
The ghosts have survived death. Whether they can survive renovation is another matter.
For decades, the spectral residents of Crumblewick Hall have enjoyed a comfortably shabby existence: arguing in cupboards, misplacing belongings and maintaining standards nobody living remembers agreeing to.
Then Miss Marjorie Bellweather inherits the house.
She brings plans for a guesthouse, improved plumbing and Wi-Fi. The ghosts consider this an outrage. Something must be done, preferably before anyone starts discussing en-suite bathrooms.
Unfortunately, their haunting skills leave rather a lot to be desired.
Lady Euphemia Drizzlewick supplies the drama. Sir Bartholomew Clank prepares for enemies of uncertain description. Mr Percival Puddifoot insists on proper household management, while Millie Mothbutton makes herself unhelpful by hiding things. Dame Arabella Shriek approaches eternity as a theatrical engagement, and Agnes Gristlepot remains firmly convinced that pastry deserves priority.
As attempts to frighten off the new owner descend into supernatural disorder, Crumblewick Hall begins revealing more than faulty plumbing. A dusty locket, an awakening east wing and secrets beneath the floorboards suggest that this troublesome old house still has something important to say.
Blending British humour, village gossip, ghostly mishaps and an affectionate exploration of memory and belonging, The Ghosts of Crumblewick Hall is a warm-hearted haunted-house comedy for readers who like their supernatural fiction with eccentric characters, emotional depth and strong opinions about tea.
